A B-double linehaul driver who has spent more than 13 years with Lindsay Transport has won this year’s NatRoad Professional Driver Award.

Brian Dark was named the winner today at the NatRoad Conference on the Gold Coast.

Dark joined Lindsay Transport in 1997 after spending more than 10 years in the Army.

In a citation accompanying the award, Dark was referred to a professional driver who cares for his customers.

"Brian is proactive in undertaking training offered by his employer," the citation reads.

"He has driven many accident free kilometres, and helps to maintain his truck and trailers in immaculate condition."

Dark competed with Hans Lucassen from Harris Refrigerated and Mickie Day from Hernes Freight for the top prize.

NatRoad also named Dave Kreutzberger the winner of the Transport Youth Award.

Kreutzberger is a mechanic for Border Express, where he completed his heavy vehicle motor apprenticeship.

The citation described Kreutzberger as "an adaptable and reliable worker who is able to complete any tasks allocated to him to a very high standard".

"He shows great initiative and motivation in seeking further educational opportunities that will equip him with the necessary skills to be a leader in his field and also benefit us as a business," the citation reads.

The award follows a string of accolades for Kreutzberger, who won the NSW Training Award for the top apprentice in a vehicle trade.

He also won the 2008 Hartwigs Award for Most Outstanding Student and Results and the 2009 Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia Award for Outstanding Achievement.
