Engineering firm Downer EDI has tapped former Star Track Express Chairman Grant Fenn to be its new managing director.

Fenn, who held a number of senior Qantas freight transport positions before moving to Downer as Chief Financial Officer last year, takes the top job following the resignation of Geoff Knox on Friday.

Fenn is also a past board member of Australian Air Express, Qantas’s joint-venture freight business with Australia Post.

He spent 2007-2008 as the executive general manager of Freight Enterprises, a role that included oversight of Qantas Air Cargo, Qantas Cargo Handling, Express Freighters Australia, Australian Air Express, Star Track Express, DPEX Worldwide and Jupiter Oceania.

“Prior to joining Downer, Grant was a member of the Qantas Executive Committee for over 10 years where he was responsible for the airports, freight, flight catering and Qantas holidays businesses,” Downer Chairman Peter Jollie says, adding that Fenn had been recruited as a potential CEO.
