Industry gets the chance to name a new award that recognises acts of bravery by Australian truck drivers

The trucking industry will have its say on naming a new award that recognises acts of bravery by Australian truck drivers.
The Australian Trucking Association and Continental Tyres Australia have put the call out to the industry to help name the award that will be presented from 2011.
To be presented at the Australian Trucking Convention during the awards ceremony, the gong will acknowledge acts of bravery.
ATA Chairman David Simon says the ATA is keen to have the industry’s input into the naming of what will become one of trucking’s most prestigious awards.
“The award will be a great opportunity for the industry to pay tribute to those who go above and beyond the call of duty in the job,” Simon says.
“The award will help promote the industry to the wider community and therefore needs a name that reflects its importance.”
The person whose nomination is adopted will take home four new tyres for a private passenger vehicle or ute.
Those interested in nominating a name need to contact the secretary of the ATA awards, Steve Williamson. Entries must be received by 5pm Tuesday, November 30.
The inaugural winner will be crowned during the convention in March next year. Entrants must be fulltime professional employee or owner-drivers and currently working. They must be doing their job at the time of the incident for which they are nominated.
