Road investment vital to cope with bigger trucks, Qld says

Upgrades to Warrego Highway vital to cope with number of trucks on the road, Queensland Government says

Upgrades to the Warrego Highway are vital to cope with a rise in the number of trucks on the road, the Queensland Government says.

Work is currently underway on upgrades to the federally-funded Warrego Highway, and Acting Main Roads Minister Stirling Hinchliffe says the works will benefit the trucking industry.

“There’s a lot more heavy traffic on the roads, particularly on the Warrego Highway. It’s a federally-funded highway and a vital road link, right in the heart of the Surat Basin,” Hinchliffe says.

“Our road crews are hard at work upgrading a vital stretch of the highway between Roma and Mitchell, to make it safer and more secure for those big semi trailers.”

Work is also underway on a $4.6 million investment to widen and seal sections of the Roma-Taroom Road north east of Roma as part of an overall $30 million investment in the road.

The Carnarvon Highway from Injune to Rolleston will also be upgraded to seal and widen a section between the south west and the Central Highlands region.

The upgrade coincides with a $1.8 million spend on the Mitchell Highway on the Queensland and NSW border to align the road and widen it to eight metres.
