The Western Australian Government will pump more than $135 million into local roads after reaching a formal agreement to begin works.
The Government’s Local Roads Program has been endorsed by local councils under the State Road Funds to Local Government Advisory Committee.
Transport Minister Simon O’Brien says the investment is more than $12 million above the funding allocated to local roads last financial year.
“It includes $2.5million for improvements to Great Southern and South-West roads carrying plantation timber, and roads used for carting agricultural lime and grain in the Wheatbelt,” O’Brien says of the latest round of funding.
Some of the money under the program to be allocated includes $14.45 million in unspecified direct grants and $63.56 million for specific road projects.
Another $27.9 million from the program will be used for traffic management and road safety, while $3.2 million will be spent on bridges.
The program also allocates $20.36 million to local roads that provide wider community benefits.
