June 11, 2010

To further develop its international freight forwarding focus, national logistics specialist Northline has recruited global shipping expert David Dunwoodie as International Freight Forwarding Manager.

Dunwoodie has more than 30 years’ experience in international shipping, with extensive knowledge of container and break bulk liner services. He has previously held senior sales and marketing roles with Swire Shipping, Blue Star Line and Orient Overseas Container Line.

Based in Sydney, he will focus on selling Northline’s international freight forwarding services by both winning new business and identifying how to streamline supply chains for existing customers.

This high-profile appointment adds momentum to Northline’s international freight forwarding capabilities. Last month, the company commenced the first regular less-than-container-load (LCL) service to link north Asia with Darwin.

Northline is an Australian logistics company that specialises in servicing remote locations throughout the country. The privately-owned business, which employs about 400 people, provides freight, warehousing, international freight services and undertakes special projects throughout Australia.

CEO Craige Whitton says recruitment of Dunwoodie demonstrates the company’s commitment to strengthening its international freight forwarding division.

"This is driven by customers requesting us to add this extra dimension to our service offering," he says.

"This extends Northline’s ability to provide a one-stop-shop for our customers’ entire supply chain.

"As the Asia-Pacific region becomes more economically integrated, companies are seeking to work with a single logistics specialist to offer end-to-end freight services, from the manufacturer, through our state-of-the-art distribution centres, to their storefront.

"International freight forwarding is a vital element of Northline’s value proposition.

"David gives our customers access to a wealth of experience about how to integrate international freight services into their operations, removing both cost and complexity from their supply chains."

Dunwoodie says the role with Northline provides an exciting business development challenge.

"My career has equipped me with extensive experience in all areas of liner shipping, providing first-hand understanding of shipping operations, cost structures and drivers from a carrier’s perspective," he says.

"My skills and experience are a great fit with Northline, which distinguishes itself by providing customers with customised freight forwarding services throughout Australia and now the Asia-Pacific region."
