K&S Freighters’ drive into Western Australian resources support has moved up a gear with the purchase of Regal Transport Group.

The acquisition of the heavy freight and general haulage firm will be completed in July

K&S did not reveal the purchase price of Regal, which employs 120 people and had depots in Perth, Port Hedland, Newman and Karratha. It has, however, put its annual revenue at $50m.

"This region, with its oil and gas and resources projects is a key to our future growth," K&S Managing Director Legh Winser says.

K&S will use debt and equity to fund the purchase.

The purchase comes after the $24 million January acquisition of Pacific Transport, which was focused on Broome and Derby services from Perth.

It had 90 employees and annual revenues of $22 million.
