Rudd Government announces more funding for black spots in NSW and Victoria

More than $350,000 will be invested in New England in NSW to fix dangerous black spots on local roads.
The Rudd Government will spend $365,000 on three hazards at Inverell, Gilgai and the Bruxner Highway.
The works include removing vegetation and resealing and realigning roads.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese says the Government has invested $2.5 million in the New England region to fix black spots.
“Nationally, we’ve doubled funding for the Black Spot program to half a billion dollars – more than honouring our election commitments,” Albanese says.
“An independent evaluation of the program found it prevented at least 32 fatalities and more than 1,500 serious injuries in its first three years, underscoring its effectiveness at reducing fatal car accidents.”
Another $135,000 will be spent in the Victorian region of Taree to install a roundabout at a dangerous intersection
The project was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts.
