A livestock truck driver was taken to hospital after his vehicle rolled in NSW yesterday, killing eight cattle and shutting down the Bruxner Highway

The incident happened near Casino about 4pm when the prime mover carrying 54 cattle tried to round a corner at Mallanganee and overturned.

The 42-year-old driver suffered a head laceration and six of the cattle died at the scene. Police officers were forced to destroy another two due to their injuries.

“The Bruxner Highway was closed for over five hours while police conducted examinations of the scene and emergency services cleared the road,” a police statement says.

“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.”
