US-based Werner Global Logistics establishes Australian subsidiary in a further expansion of the company's growing global presence

April 12, 2010

US-based transportation and logistics company, Werner Global Logistics (WGL), has established an Australian subsidiary in a further expansion of the company’s growing global presence.

Derek Leathers, chief operating officer of Werner Enterprises and president of Werner Global Logistics, told last week’s 2010 Australian Trucking Convention on the Gold Coast that, in the third quarter of 2009, WGL established its newest subsidiary, Werner Global Logistics Australia.

The new subsidiary expands the company’s global presence and offers freight forwarding, logistics, local transportation and distribution services to the Australian market.

The primary service areas include the most densely-populated markets of Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

Werner told delegates that throughout the past 50-plus years the company has successfully implemented transportation and logistics solutions across the globe – and “the growing transportation needs of Australia make it a prime location to continue this model of success”.

Founded in 1956, Werner is a premier transportation and logistics company, with coverage throughout North America, Asia, Europe, South America, Africa and now Australia.

It maintains its global headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska and maintains offices in the US, Canada, Mexico, China and Australia.

Werner is among the five largest truckload carriers in the US, with a diversified portfolio of transportation services that includes dedicated, medium-to-long-haul, regional and local van capacity, expedited, temperature-controlled and flatbed services.

Werner’s portfolio includes freight management, truck brokerage, intermodal, load/mode and network optimisation and freight forwarding.
