Diesel spill closes Bruce Highway

Jack-knifed truck causes diesel to spill on Bruce Highway, closing both lanes

April 16, 2010

Both lanes of the Bruce Highway south of Cairns have been closed after a truck jack-knifed and spilled diesel on the road.

The incident happened on the Cardwell Range, causing police to close the route to all traffic.

A second truck was forced to take evasive action to avoid the jack-knifed vehicle.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered minor injuries but it is not known what caused him to lose control of the truck.

Motorists have been asked to delay travel or remain patient while the roads are cleared.

Meanwhile, a truck rollover south of Brisbane has caused delays on the Logan Motorway.

The vehicle spilled oil near the Wembley Road exit and it is expected the route will be closed until about 12pm today.

Cleanup crews are on the scene and work is underway to remove the stricken truck.

Police say the driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
