Murphy’s wins Adelaide work for BlueScope Steel

COMPANY NEWS: Murphy's wins new work out of Adelaide for BlueScope

By Samantha Freestone | January 12, 2009

Victorian carrier Murphy Transport Solutions has won new work out of Adelaide for BlueScope Steel.

General Manager Angela Murphy says the intrastate contract hauling steel products around Adelaide represents a 25 percent boost to the company’s South Australian division.

“The contract was finalised on Christmas Eve and due to start in April,” Murphy tells ATN.

Murphy, who manages the Adelaide division of the 151-year-old family business, says the company was in discussions “for some months”, adding the contract was a “closed process”.

“We knew the tender was coming up because ours was,” she says. “We were the incumbent on one and we won the business on the other.”

The contract is to manage local distribution for two locations. The work doesn’t stem from the collapse of steel carrier Mannway late last year, Murphy says.

The news comes on the back of a new sugar contract for the business, with Murphy’s securing liquid work for Sugar Australia last year.
