December 8, 2009

Asciano has signed another Queensland coal haulage contract, this time for 10 years with Isaac Plains Coal Management (IPCM).

The deal, the fifth Queensland haulage contract announced by the rail carrier, requires Asciano to move 1.1 million tonnes of coal from IPCM’s Isaac Plains mine in the Goonyella system to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal.

Asciano Managing Director Mark Rowsthorn says the company’s advancements in the Queensland market are only likely to grow because of government-driven upgrades to the railway line system such as the Missing Link Project.

“This development provides further growth opportunities for the Pacific National coal business,” Rowsthorn says.

“So far in 2009 the start up phase of the Queensland operations has delivered over 4 million tonnes.

“This is a direct result of Pacific National’s rail haulage expertise and significant investments in this growing Queensland market.”

Rowsthorn says Asciano is confident of securing long-term coal export opportunities in Queensland and NSW.
