ARTC appoints the former head of Rail Services Australia, John Caldon, as its new chairman

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has appointed the former head of Rail Services Australia, John Caldon, as its new chairman.

Caldon has been a appointed to the position for three years, with his term beginning next year.

He will take over from Barry Murphy who has chaired the corporation since its formation in 1998.

Federal Finance Minster Lindsay Tanner made the announcement and says he is confident Caldon is the right person for the job.

"Mr Caldon brings with him a wealth of experience. As well as being a chartered accountant, he has previously served on a number of company boards across a range of industries including infrastructure, resources and finance," Tanner says.

"We are confident that Mr Caldon has the expertise and energy to continue the modernisation and revitalisation of the nation's freight rail network."

The ARTC’s current chief executive Bob Marchant has been reappointed for another two years, while Andrea Staines who is the former chief executive of Australian Airlines has also been reappointed as a director for another three years.
