Fletchers shifts focus as business quits Berri

Fletchers Freighters may alter operations in the wake of National Foods' decision to close Berri factory

South Australian operator Fletcher’s Freighters may be forced to alter its operations in the wake of National Foods’ decision to close its Berri manufacturing plant in Berri, north east of Adelaide.

Fletcher’s Managing Director Barry Fletcher says it may be necessary to shift some of his trucks away from his head office, which is based near the factory.

“We will still be carrying the same amount of product of National Foods, just from different places,” Fletcher says.

“Some trucks may be relocated depending on whether we are moving the freight from.”

One of National Foods’ major providers of Berri products, Fletcher’s is also looking at expanding its operations into other areas to offset the impact of the closure.

“We have got some potential clients who are trialling with us at the moment,” he says.

“We are carrying various types of freight for a dozen of them at various locations across the country at the moment and I am confident we could go full time with them based on the feedback I have received.”

National Foods closed the facility last month, citing duplication and the need to optimise production as the reasons.
