Queensland has chosen its transport and logistics achievers for 2009 as part of the Queensland Supply Chain Conference in Brisbane.
The T&L Industry Development Awards, presented by the Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia, recognise companies and individuals who have shown commitment to fostering industry workers.
The Industry Futures Award was presented to the Transport and Logistics Workforce Advisory Group, a unit within the Department of Transport and Main Roads established to create sustainable, workable solutions to the labour shortage.
The unit was recognised for a number of campaigns, including its successful Adopt a School program.
The Experience Pays awards, to recognise mature-age workers in the sector, were shared by two training and recruitment champions in Bill Potter from NQX (for less than 10 years of industry involvement) and Kagan Logistics’ Peter Thompson (over 10 years).
Potter is NQX’s National Learning and Development Manager and has led the establishment of an in-house learning college for staff training. Thompson (pictured), the Queensland Manager for Kagan, has a long history of industry service and is renowned for developing a unique culture within Kagan’s local operations.
Dirk Wagensveld, a Section Leader and Trainer at J.J.Richards Engineering, was highly commended in the over 10 years category.
Meanwhile, a large field of nominees for the Future Leaders award saw Collins Food Group Purchasing Officer Jodie Collie recognised with high commendation and the trophy go to Georgina Vuksanovic, a warehouse manager at Mrs Crocket’s Kitchen.
Vuksanovic was described by judges as a "talented, energetic and enthusiastic future leader" and has been responsible for a number of efficiency initiatives within the Hemmant warehouse as Distribution Supervisor.
All winners and those highly commended will be entered into the national SCLAA awards decided in November.
Over 400 people attended the dinner at Brisbane’s Sofitel Hotel.
