Asciano names ex-BHP exec as new intermodal boss

Asciano appoints former OneSteel and BHP executive Chris Keast as its new intermodal chief

August 31, 2009

Asciano has appointed former OneSteel and BHP executive Chris Keast as its new intermodal chief, a move the company hopes will focus direction within the group.

While at OneSteel Keast was credited with generating more then $2 billion in revenue through improved supply chain initiatives between 2001 and 2009.

According to Asciano CEO Mark Rowsthorn, this experience coupled with in-depth knowledge of Asciano’s business interests makes him a valuable addiction to the company.

“His (Keast’s) previous exposure to interstate and steel-related freight services and long-term relationship with Pacific National through his tie with OneSteel provides him with a good grounding and strong understanding of our operations,” he says.

Keast, who will have the title of Division General Manager of Intermodal, will begin work in Melbourne on September 14.
