Tasmanian Pacific National workers offered “rescue” package by Government after line was closed
Pacific National workers on Tasmania’s north-south freight rail line which was closed down last month due to safety issues have been offered a “rescue” package by the State Government.
Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure Graeme Sturges says the offer means at least 20 employees will be offered work at Rhyndaston, where line repairs are being carried out.
“This offer will assist workers during this period of time and help keep skilled rail workers in Tasmania,” Sturges says.
According to Sturges, the deal is still being worked out with Pacific National, which is discussing the offer with its workers.
