NTC names academic as deputy

Road safety academic appointed deputy chair of NTC

Road safety academic Dr Peter Johnston has been appointed Deputy Chair of the National Transport Commission, joining five other commissioners.

The NTC says Johnston brings to the role more than 30 years experience in transport safety, stemming from his roles at ARRB and in the Victorian government.

NTC Chairman Greg Martin says Johnston’s work on the panel will help deliver a safer and more efficient transport system.

“Professor Johnston’s leadership and commitment to innovation in injury prevention, based on sound research, have broadly influenced public policy in transport safety and made our roads and vehicles safer,” Martin says.

Johnston, who leads the Monash University Accident Research Centre, was first appointed a commissioner in April last year.

The NTC has five ordinary members of which one is appointed as chair and another as deputy chair of the commission.

The chief executive of the NTC makes up the sixth person on the panel.
