Moore trailer to raise funds for Endeavour Foundation

Lionel Moore Trailers intends to auction a brand new tipper trailer for charity at the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show in May.

Lionel Moore Trailers on Queensland’s Darling Downs builds around 300 trailers a year for any application. However, one of Moore’s recently built state-of-the-art trailers is set to attract major interest at the upcoming Queensland Truck and Machinery Show.

The road train-rated trailer, a 34ft tipper, is going up for tender with funds raised to go direct to the Endeavour Foundation. According to Lionel Moore, the trailer is suitable for farmers right through to commercial operators.

“Because it’s our latest model, it incorporates all the latest features we fit to trailers,” Moore tells ATN. “It’s covered fully by our warranty, so it’s just like buying a brand new trailer.”

The trailer sits proudly at the Pittsworth premises of Moore Trailers and can be viewed there until the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show where tenders will close at midday on May 17, the show’s final day. Once the successful tender is announced, the Endeavour Foundation will write out an invoice with payments going direct to the foundation.

Although Moore has participated in rallies and fund-raising strategies for the Endeavour Foundation during the past decade, it was his Spare Parts Manager, Ian Hardie, who can claim credit for conceiving the idea of the charity trailer last year.

“Then I started thinking about the Brisbane Truck Show and I thought I’d incorporate the two of them together,” Hardie explains.

While Lionel Moore Trailers supplied the steel for the tipper body, Hardie approached the company’s regular suppliers for further sponsorship. Almost all came to the party, delivering their products free of charge, including Air Brake Corporation who expedited a brake kit from Sydney, and Hendrickson who supplied the suspension and axles.

Other donors include Alcoa, Samios Tyres, K Hitch, General Pneumatics, Sedl Agencies, Truckmate, CMC Coil Steels, BOC Australia, Westco, Holland Hitch, Lemons’s Tarpaulins, Jost, Hi-Way 1, Metro Refinish, Australian Truck & Auto Parts, Color Corp, Narva and Alfagomma.

“Nearly everything on the vehicle is donated, right down to paint, lights, nuts and bolts, whole suspensions, axles and tyres,” Moore says.

“Everybody chipped in a little bit, and all we had to do was to provide some materials and labour.”

The trailer has already attracted interest, particularly with the arrival of the grain harvest season. However, despite the offers being made to purchase the trailer immediately, Moore Trailers are holding their ground until tenders close.

“We could sell it 10 times a day, but that’s not the deal,” Hardie says. “We want to get a lot of exposure for all the people who supplied the parts.”

The trailer is valued at $77,000 and Lionel Moore Trailers expects to reach or more likely surpass that amount by the May 17 tender deadline at the Queensland Truck and Machinery Show.
