Toll Holdings has swallowed another transport company, with the purchase of Western Australian courier business Courier Australia.

Toll chief Paul Little says the acquisition boosts the company’s presence in the West.

"This acquisition will boost Toll’s presence in Western Australia’s courier and express business segment and is another demonstration of Toll’s commitment to acquiring quality assets as opportunities present themselves," he says in a statement.

Courier Australia is a courier and express transport and logistics group, based in Perth. It was established in 1959 and employs about 600 staff and independent contractors.

The company has a strong regional network in Western Australia which will add scale to some of Toll’s existing courier and express businesses, Toll says.

"This is a good acquisition for us," Little says.

"It is a good fit for our existing customers, staff and business units. We anticipate Courier Australia being earnings per share positive in its first year with Toll."
