Road upgrade in doubt after contractor goes into administration

Queensland’s multi-million dollar Moggill Road upgrade remains in jeopardy as the Government rushes to install new contracting arrangements to restart stalled construction.

McDonald Keen, the company contracted by the Government to complete the project, went into administration, leaving the Government to find a way of ensuring the $14 million project will resume.

Minister for Main Roads Warren Pitt says the Government is talking with sub-contractors to reach a deal that will get the project up and running and finished as soon as possible.

However, the process is proving far from smooth, with Pitt saying there still a number of issues to be negotiated.

"While there are still a few details to be ironed out, Main Roads is hoping works can re-commence as early as next week," he says.

"Further discussions are necessary, but at this stage it is likely Main Roads will take over running the project, retaining all the existing sub-contractors on the job."

But he adds the Government is intent on ending the impasse as soon as possible to ensure the Moggill Road upgrade is finished on time.
