Founder of Skelton Trucking, Brad Skelton, has this week signed an agreement with Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers to sell his entire fleet within Skelton Trucking and SVT.

The decision to auction the fleet means Skelton Trucking and SVT will cease operation.

A statement from the company says the decision "provides the opportunity to refocus the direction of the company and unlock the considerable capital invested in equipment for other uses more in line with the current demands of Skelton Tomkinson’s clients".

The freight forwarding division will continue operating.

"I have no doubt the innuendo that the industry will read into this announcement," Skelton says.

"However, it is nothing more than a commercially astute business decision that allows us to progress the strongest facet of my Group.

"We are still able to offer ground transportation services to our clients through a series of approved subcontractors – and in fact, this is how we used to operate before I launched Skelton Trucking and SVT.

"Skelton Tomkinson has always experienced incredibly healthy trade. I have made the decision to focus our energy back on our core business so as we can take it to the next level. I am absolutely certain that with this restructure to our strategic direction we can continue to watch our premier business grow in leaps and bounds."

The company can more swiftly execute plans to build their network of terminals and washpads in Mackay and Melbourne – on top of the previously announced washpad and terminal in Perth, which is due to start construction soon.

Skelton is also opening new international offices – most significantly in Dubai.

These developments had been in the planning for some months and are now able to be executed much more swiftly," Skelton says.

Skelton Tomkinson will now boast an international network of offices in Houston, Yokohama, Auckland, Amsterdam and Dubai, as well as a national network of terminals and AQIS washpads.

"Although I have had to make some tough decisions about Skelton Trucking and SVT, I am enormously excited about the future direction of Skelton Tomkinson," Skelton says.

"In the coming weeks we will be announcing participation in several major projects as well as breaking ground on the new terminals at Lot 31 Industroplex, Paget, Mackay; 111 Derrimut Drive, Derrimut, Melbourne and Bushmead Rd & Stirling Cres, Hazelmere, Perth.

"For Skelton Tomkinson, I imagine we’ll see our most exciting year to date."

The RBA auction will be held on June 24.
