Queensland Rail (QR) has secured the services of Marcus McAuliffe to join its senior management ranks.

QR Group Executive General Manager Freight Stephen Cantwell has announced that, following a re-structuring of the freight business announced last week, McAuliffe will head the newly-created National Logistics and Retail Freight business within QR’s freight portfolio.

The other three businesses under QR’s freight portfolio are coal, bulk and intermodal.

McAuliffe comes to QR with strong credentials, including senior roles with Chemtrans, Incitec Fertilisers, United Transport Services (Brambles), Patrick and Pacific National.

As well as working in Australia, he has also worked in South-East Asia, the United States and New Zealand.

“As we seek to better serve our customers we are continuing to build a focussed team of industry executives,” Cantwell says.

“Marcus McAuliffe will certainly add to our management capability going forward.”

QR CEO Lance Hockridge says the appointment is a further indication of progress in the transformation of QR.

“QR is going through substantial change to capitalise on national growth in the transport and logistics market,” Hockridge says.

“As we grow a truly national enterprise, we’re looking to the best management talent available.”
