The "12 million km Man" was recognised at the South Australian Road Transport Association (SARTA) Dinner on Saturday night, which also awarded the inaugural Young Mechanic of the Year Award.

Kevin Cartwright won Professional Driver of the Year Award for a 44-year career which has seen him travel 12 million km accident and incident free, hence earning him the nickname of the 12 million km Man. Cartwright will clock up 23 years with Whiteline Transport in October.

Cartwright was recognised as "an outstanding example and role model for this industry" due to his commitment to providing service and safety to Whiteline, his community and other road users.

The inaugural winner of the Kym Brennand Memorial Young Mechanic of the Year Award, named in remembrance of SARTA’s first sponsor, was Jason Treloar. The 21-year-old, who completed an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic in 2007, was acknowledged for his work ethic and passion for the job.

Treloar works with G&R Logging and "has become a crucial link in maintaining and servicing the company fleet".
