Main Roads has awarded a $1.1 million contract to Boral Asphalt to reseal various roads in the Warwick and Stanthorpe shires.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today says the project, which was part of ongoing maintenance work in the Border District, would start this week.
“Resealing work is a long-term solution in protecting roads against the wear and tear caused by weather and traffic, preventing the need for more costly repairs, says Pitt.
“The work also preserves the underlying structure of the road, making it more resistant to water during the wet season and to cracking in the heat.”
Roads to be resealed include:
·Wood Street, Warwick
·New England Highway, Warwick, between Glen Road and Law Road
·Three sections of the Cunningham Highway west of Warwick
·Freestone Road
·Wheatvale area
·Bracker Road, Warwick
·Between Killarney and the Border Gate
·Spring Creek Road (west of Queen Mary Falls)
·Warwick – Allora Road
·Smelter Road and Turner’s Creek areas on the New England Highway
·Amiens Road
·Stanthorpe Connection Road (south)
·New England Highway between The Summit and Ellwood’s Road
·New England Highway between Accommodation Creek and Wallangarra
Pitt says the project would bring benefits to motorists, the freight industry and the community.
“The resealed roads will deliver smoother, safer journeys for motorists travelling through Warwick, Stanthorpe, Killarney, Allora, Amiens and surrounding districts,” says Pitt.
“Some of these roads, in particular the highways, also serve as important freight links and, as such, the project will greatly benefit industry.”
