The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) has called for nominations for the 2008 National Trucking Industry Awards.

The Awards will take place at the ATA Foundations Sponsors Gala Awards Dinner as part of the 2008 Australian Trucking Convention to be held in Canberra from 27-30 May.

ATA Chief Executive Stuart St Clair has urged members of the Australian trucking community to take the opportunity to recognise the people who have contributed to shaping the industry into what it is today.

"The awards form an important part of the trucking industry’s effort to promote the commitment and achievement of individuals and organisations within the industry," he says.

"They recognise excellence in all facets of our industry from the contribution of operators, drivers, trainers and the National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year Award.

"I am urging everyone to take a look at their individual environments and think about a person or business who stands out in their mind as one who has made an exceptional contribution — without these people, the trucking industry would not have reached the standard that it is at today."

Categories for the 2008 Awards are:
  • National Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry
  • National Professional Driver of the Year Award
  • National Australian Trucking Industry Woman of the Year Award
  • Training Excellence Award.
Two other awards will be presented in conjunction with the National Trucking Industry Awards:
  • Goodyear Highway Heroes Award (recognising the heroic actions of a professional truck driver on our roads)
  • Don Watson — ATA in Appreciation Award (recognising the dedicated efforts of individuals within the broader trucking industry to the activities of the industry network).
The 2008 awards offer prizes to the winners, including three international travel packages.

Nomination forms for the 2008 National Trucking Industry Awards are available from the ATA website. More information is available from ATA Events Manager Steve Power on (02) 6253 6937.
