The Queensland Government has committed $415,000 in funding to widen a 1.4km stretch of Pittsworth-Felton Road to improve safety.

The road project will begin today and includes widening and sealing about 1.2km of the road west of Felton.

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt says this section of road carries about 430 vehicles a day, with 22 per cent being heavy commercial vehicles.

“The Pittsworth-Felton Road is an important link between Pittsworth and the surrounding areas in the Cambooya Shire,” Pitt says.

“Cambooya Shire Council will carry out this work which is expected to be completed by the end of April 2008.

“The project will widen and seal the existing road to provide two 3.25-metre-wide traffic lanes with 1.35m wide sealed shoulders.”

Mr Pitt says the project is the first of two planned for the road.

“When the second project is completed it will remove the last section of single-lane bitumen between Pittsworth and Felton,” he says.
