Hyundai’s stalking of Toyota in midsize vans segment pays off
Hyundai has knocked market leader Toyota off top sales spot in April in the mid-sized van segment with the iLoad.
The tussle for the top in this hotly contested segment is a battle of the diesel automatic players.
The well-specced and well-priced Hyundai has had HiAce in its sights for a while with regular month on month tussles.
Popular amongst fleet buyers as well as ABN and private buyers, the mid-sized van segment can be the source of decent sales numbers for automotive manufacturers.
As a result, LDV is also making inroads with its G10 mid-sized van offering.
Formerly a petrol only option, the G10 now offers a keenly priced diesel.
In April, the LDV G10 came in just behind the Renault Trafic (8.1 per cent) with 5.5 per cent of the market and in front of the Mercedes Benz Vito (3.9 per cent).
Other segments remain stable with Volkswagen dominating the mini-van market with the Caddy making 60.1 per cent in front of the Renault Kangoo which accounts for 24.2 per cent in the little league.
At the heavy end of the van/cab chassis segment it’s still all about Isuzu, however the Mercedes Benz Sprinter has come in second in front popular Japanese offerings from Fuso and Hino.
The action in the mid-sized market could also be set for a shake up later in the year as the new Euro 6 emissions torque-converter auto equipped Ford Transit hits the market place.
