Queensland trucking operators can now apply for the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) to gain greater route access
Queensland-based transport operators can now apply for the Intelligent Access Program (IAP) to gain access to Higher Mass Limits (HML).
Queensland Transport is accepting enrolments in the program, which will be compulsory once the transition period ends on July 1, 2009.
Main Roads Director-General Alan Tesch says the IAP will allow operators to carry up to an extra 10 percent more weight per axle on the State’s HML network in return for being monitored by a GPS tracking system.
Tesch says this will cut the number of trucks on the road and result in higher productivity gains for the trucking industry because it can carry more freight per load.
“As part of this program, heavy vehicle operators will have continued access to the existing Higher Mass Limits (HML) network and any new routes being opened over time,” Tesch says.
According to Tesch, the IAP will also boost road safety because it will ensure the trucking industry operates in the safest manner possible.
He says the Queensland Government will expand its HML network in the coming years.
