The window to provide public feedback to the National Transport Commission’s proposed HVNL changes closes on November 21

The opportunity to submit feedback to the Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Bill and Heavy Vehicle National Law Amendment Regulations is closing, with the submissions window set to finish tomorrow, November 21.

The purpose of the consultation with industry is to advise the National Transport Commission (NTC) on the potential effectiveness of the proposed HVNL reforms, the process of which was started two years ago.

Recommendations from the NTC were key in producing changes to the HVNL in 2023 and 2024, and a further 12 recommended changed were produced in September this year.

These recommendations included changes to fatigue record-keeping and enforcement, an increase to general mass limits, an increase in vehicle height and length and the introduction of a new National Auditing Standard.

Community consultation is one of the final stages of delivering updated HVNL law.

Feedback has also been sought on recommended changes to 71 HVNL penalties.
