HVIA leading charge towards zero emission trucks

The industry body, through its HVIA-LITE project, is guiding industry to transitioning to zero emission truck fleets

The Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), through its HVIA-LITE project, is guiding a coordinated and collaborative industry approach to lead the heavy vehicle industry’s transition to zero emission trucks.

The HVIA-LITE project aims to transition transport companies from using vehicles with high emissions to heavy vehicle fleets progressively dominated by battery electric (BEV) and fuel cell electric (FCEV) zero emission trucks.

The HVIA says the HVIA-LITE driving committee is working to identify and resolve a wide array of issues and barriers that prevent the industry from making the change.

“We are grateful for the brilliant engagement and impressive knowledge and expertise that is being shared by our HVIA member representative group through the committee,” HVIA’s Steve Power says.

“The agenda includes standards, legislative and access requirements, workplace and operational safety, repairs and maintenance, technical and emergency support, skills and training, energy supply and more.”

The HVIA says it has also been drafting “low and zero emissions policy statements” that the HVIA will use in its 2022 Federal election campaign, with all member representatives getting the opportunity to comment on it.

It also uses a big information piece sent out to ensure HVIA members’ customers have the information needed to understand the implications of taking their first steps down the road of transitioning to electric fleets.

“Next year’s Brisbane Truck Show will certainly provide an unrivalled showcase of everything that is available and what’s around the corner,” Power says.

“There are opportunities for all HVIA members to get involved in the project, including through working groups addressing specific parts of the project.”
