The call comes after the HVIA asked the regulator to remove a “contentious” tipper stability calculator out of the VSB6’s latest update
The Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA) has asked the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) to extend the roll-out date of the latest version of VSB6 by an extra three months.
In mid-November, HVIA called on the NHVR to remove a tipper stability calculation from the upcoming VSB6 update.
Since then, HVIA has worked with members regarding specific alternative compliance options posed by the NHVR and has welcomed the chance to pass that feedback on and discuss further options with NHVR staff.
“Having an open dialogue and working directly with the NHVR team on these issues has been incredibly productive,” HVIA chief technical officer Adam Ritzinger says.
“Many of our members work with VSB6 and its multitude of sections and technical requirements on a daily basis, and it is crucial that we get it right.”
However, as 2024 draws to a close, the implementation date of February 1, 2024 for the updated version of VSB6 (version 3.2) also draws nearer.
While the final technical revisions to the updated version are still being determined, HVIA has called on the NHVR to extend implementation of new version of VSB6 by an additional three months to May 1, 2024.
The HVIA says this extension will give industry the certainty that they will not have to comply with a set of presently undefined requirements immediately after returning from the Christmas break.
HVIA has not yet received any feedback from the NHVR on that request.
