Hume City Council is proposing implementing a truck ban on key roads in the region following a higher-than-normal volume of heavy vehicle traffic since upgrades were completed at the intersection of Mickleham Road and Craigieburn Road in 2022.
The Council has cited traffic survey results showing the use of local roads like Bardwell Drive, Konagaderra Road, Gelles Road and Wildwood Road (North and South).
The proposal to ban trucks on the roads was initially floated in February 2023 and is only now reaching community consultation.
Council has proposed erecting ‘No Trucks’ signage at the entries of the affected roads, which would restrict heavy vehicles over 4.5 tonnes GVM from accessing the roads.
The implementation of any signs would then be subject to VicRoads approval, so Council will table a proposal to VicRoads if there is enough community support.
Heavy vehicle operators and transport companies have also been invited to provide feedback on the proposal, which can be accessed here.
