The new Menangle Truck Parking Bay is finally open to serve heavy vehicles only and accommodate oversize overmass (OSOM) vehicles up to 125m long and 8m wide.
Open from December 19, 2025, the new bay is located along the northbound section of the Hume Motorway in Menangle, opposite to Partridge VC Rest Area.
The bay’s key features include a 300 metre deceleration lane, a 575 metre acceleration lane and a 5000 square metre parking area.
TfNSW – who announced the opening – have listened to industry feedback and will be adding toilet facilities by early 2026. The new site replaces the temporary facility at Moolgun Creek.
The Menangle Truck Parking Bay replaces the former ‘Dust Bowl’ informal stopping area on the Hume Motorway, which closed during the construction of Spring Farm Parkway Stage 1.
“The Hume Motorway is one of Australia’s most important freight routes, connecting Sydney and Melbourne,” TfNSW says.
OSOM vehicles over 3.5m wide and 22m long, can only travel through the NSW Urban Zone between 9:30pm and 5:30am. Without this site, OSOM vehicles have limited options in and around the Urban Zone to stop and rest outside those permitted hours.
“By opening the Menangle Truck Stopping Bay, we fill a critical gap for the road freight industry,” TfNSW says.
