Hitachi acquires long-term collaborator and manufacturer

Hitachi says its latest acquisition will strengthen its position as a leader in electric vehicle charging infrastructure

Global technology company Hitachi Energy has announced that it has acquired Milanbased designer and manufacturer COET. 

Hitachi says the acquisition strengthens its global position and offerings in highpower electric vehicle charging infrastructure and power electronics. 

Hitachi and COET previously had a long-standing collaboration focusing on Hitachi’s portfolio of GrideMotion highpower charging infrastructure. 

COET is also a designer, manufacturer and supplier of DC traction products and components for rail, AC and DC equipment for high-power industrial applications. 

Hitachi says that its offerings will continue to serve existing and future customers, going beyond the grid while opening a breadth of opportunities in areas such assustainable mobility, smartlife and data centres. 

“We are delighted to welcome our partner of many years into the Hitachi Energy family,” Hitachi grid integration managing director Niklas Persson says. 

“This acquisition will enhance our position as a global leader in power grid technologies and energy infrastructure for eMobility, transport and industry, while COET and its customers will greatly benefit from our global footprint and power expertise.” 

COET will retain its operations as a standalone business under the leadership of its existing management. Currently it has approximately 80 highly skilled and specialised employees. 

Hitachi says its gridtoplug and ultrafastcharging solutions have been deployed in sustainable transport projects for bus and truck fleets across many countries, includingin Australia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom. 

Hitachi says the addition of COET to its portfolio increases its core capabilities at the edge of the grid, including power electronics, digital and services. It says with these capabilities, itaims to make a sustainable energy future for all.
