The South Australian Government has asked for help to spend excess funds
received for
a logistics infrastructure upgrade program set up for grain growers.
Eyre Peninsula grain growers were encouraged this week to have their say on how to use about $230,000 in excess funds from the Eyre Peninsula Grain Growers Rail Fund.
South Australia Agriculture Minister Gail Gago says the fund was set up to raise $2 million via grain grower contributions.
But due to a higher than average grain crop and increased contributions the target was reached in 2011, leaving an excess amount to be used.
“We now have an opportunity for further infrastructure upgrades on Eyre Peninsula, and would like to know grower preferences,” she says.
The Eyre Peninsula Grain Growers Rail Fund was
set up
in 2006 for a grain logistics infrastructure upgrade program, costing about $43 million.
According to the state’s government, the Eyre Peninsula grain industry and community stakeholders argued it was vital to improve the rail network to ensure grain could be reliably and safely transported to Port Lincoln for export.
EP grain growers have until March 1 2013 to have their say via an online survey at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/Eyre_Peninsula_Grain_Growers
