Healthy Heads releases healthy eating guide

Healthy Heads in Trucks and Sheds has released a new food guide targeted at improving health outcomes for Australia’s transport workers

Healthy Heads in Trucks & Sheds has released a new guide to inspire individuals in the transport sector to make healthier food and drink choices for themselves and their workplaces.

The guidelines include a variety of simple decisions that could improve health outcomes for transport drivers and workers including swapping out unhealthy snacks for healthier alternatives, and food plans to help drivers stock a healthier travel esky.

Included in most of the steps released by Healthy Heads is additional information on each health intervention to ensure transport industry professionals are armed with as much information as possible to create positive change.

The transport industry has been found to be one of the least healthy sectors in Australia.

The Driving Health project, which was completed in 2022 by Comcare, found almost a third of truck drivers had three or more diagnosed medical conditions, which is four times greater than the Australian average.

The most common medical problems for drivers were back problems, high blood pressure and mental health problems, with over half of drivers categorised as obese and one in five drivers under the age of 35 reporting severe levels of psychological distress.

Aside from improving physical health outcomes, healthier diets can also improve mental health outcomes.
