Hays asks: What’s your dream job?

Recruitment experts Hays Logistics lists important tips to keep in mind when figuring out your dream job

Whether you are looking to find a job or change your career path, attention needs to be made to what it exactly it is you want to do.

Recruiting experts Hays Logistics Senior Regional Director Tim James has helped many find their dream job but says job hunters need to think of the big picture and consider not only what professional experience they have but also their talents and hobbies.

“List the things you are good at and highlight those you enjoy doing,” James says.

“To help you determine what type of role you are best suited for, think about your personality traits; are you meticulous with an eye for detail or are you strategic with a big picture view? Do you enjoy working in a team or do you prefer to work on your own?”

Seekers are encouraged to list what is most important to them in their career values and to recognise what is not their dream job; they should not only think about what type of roles they are unwilling to compromise on, but also hours, pay and location.

“Consider also your values in this context; for example, your dream job wouldn’t take you away from the things that are important in your life.”

Developing a loose description of your dream job is also important.

“Once you know what your dream job is, you just need to develop a plan to get it,” he says.

Research the knowledge and skills you will need in your job, network and get to know the people in the field, and take action if you don’t have the skills.

“At Hays we work with thousands of people every day to connect them in the right job, which can transform their life for the better,” James says.
