Have your say on Port of Melbourne 2055 plans

Future planning for the Port of Melbourne has entered a new phase with the release of the Draft 2055 Port Development Strategy.

In a press release announcing the public release of the document for stakeholder comment a Port of Melbourne spokesperson said the PDS “outlines the high-level plans and approach for developing the capacity and efficiency of the Port for the next 30 years, while also providing a planning framework that is adaptable and responsive to changing needs over time”.

“Under the Port Management Act 1995 (Vic), all Victorian ports are legislatively required to have a PDS and to review it every five years.

“Following its review of the 2050 PDS published in 2020, PoM is now planning the development of the 2055 PDS, which will be completed by December 2025.”

The next part of the process is for the draft plan to be tested via stakeholder engagement, including surveys to understand stakeholders’ engagement preferences, 1:1 meetings with key tenants and port users, workshops with industry, community and government, and a written request for stakeholders’ input.

The PoM is inviting formal submissions from stakeholders up to and including 6 June 2025.
