“Time is money”.
For the team at Truck Rego this classic business saying drives the service they offer to fleet managers and truck dealers alike.
Truck Rego (www.newtruckrego.com.au) has evolved as a natural extension to the work its partner operation Truck Moves Australia has been involved for the past 37 years.
Truck Moves Australia Managing Director Matt Whitnall says the core function of Truck Moves Australia is to assist companies to move their trucks from one location to another through the provision of professional drivers who make their living making sure trucks arrive where they are needed, safely and on time.
Picture a ship full of prime movers landing at port that need to be driven to the manufacturer’s storage holding yard, then transported, as needed, to truck dealers around the nation.
Dealers have the choice of sending their own staff out to collect the trucks and bring them back to base, hiring bigger trucks and trailers to transport the prime movers, or having the Truck Moves Australia drivers turn up in a minibus, jump into the trucks and bring them to the dealership in an orderly manner.
The question becomes: ‘Is the time it would take dealer staff to be off the floor or out of the workshop to collect the trucks worth the money lost when they step away from their core roles in the business?’
Whitnall says as the demand for Truck Moves Australia’s services in this space grew over the years it became clear there was a gap in the market when it came to the next steps for unregistered trucks.
“We have always done regos for customers, but a few years ago we put on full-time managers to push into the space that we could see was fragmented and frustrating for dealers and fleet managers,” he says.
“It made sense that we are already moving the trucks, often taking them over the weigh bridge and getting small things done on the way to rego, that we would just open the service up to a wider audience and say – ‘You already trust us with your vehicle to move across the country professionally, why not let us save you time and hassle and money and register it and handover in one easy process and a single invoice’.
“The response has been exponential growth of this part of the business and we now complete hundreds of regos a month for dealers and fleet managers all over Australia and our customers absolutely love it.”
For the dealers, Whitnall says interstate registrations that used to take weeks to organise can now be completed in a matter of days – “Which makes the customers super happy and helps the dealers earn more sales”.
For the fleet managers the service means less time lost having staff stuck in traffic, juggling paperwork and going to and fro with transport departments having minor fixes made to help trucks pass registration requirements.
“The vehicle gets sequenced neatly through commission and delivered to site in a day or so anywhere in Australia – we make it ridiculously easy and take the administrative and downtime labour costs off their plate,” Whitnall says.
