Rod Hannifey will represent owner-drivers on the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) General Council after he defeated incumbent Frank Black.
Hannifey won the election by a tight margin after the ACT Electoral Council intervened because both candidates received the same number of votes.
ACT Electoral Commissioner Phillip Green determined the winner under the Territory’s electoral rules.
“In accordance with ATA regulations, if two candidates receive an equal number of votes, the result of the election needs to be determined by lot,” Green says.
“This determination was made using the same method that applies at ACT legislative assembly elections. Using a random number generator we determined who would be excluded from the count.”
Hannifey will begin his new role on April 1. He has a long history in trucking industry and is well known for promoting road safety and as the driver operator of the TRUCK RIGHT Industry Vehicle.
There was no election required In the Small Fleet Representative category, with Doug McMillan re-elected unopposed to the ATA General Council.
