Half a dozen Unimogs recalled

Tiny recall of Mercedes-Benz off-roaders because of potential air dryer problems

Just six Mercedes-Benz Unimogs have been recalled due to a potential problem with the air dryer breather.

It would have to rate as one of the smallest recalls and one of the most unlikely problems in the history of the Australian trucking industry.

The U400 and U500 model Unimogs in question were built between May 1, 2008 and April 1, 2012.

“In extremely cold conditions, the compressed air system air dryer breather may ice up and become blocked,” a notice issued by Product Safety Recalls Australia says.

“A blocked breather will result in a pressure increase in the air dryer, which may result in the top of the air dryer detaching.

“If the air dryer detaches, it may pose a hazard to other road users.”

The notice says a letter will be sent to owners of affected vehicles.
