Guarino gains SeaRoad COO role

Move comes as contract for second new Bass Strait ship looms

Domestic shipping industry veteran Patrick Guarino is chief operating officer at Tasmanian multimodal transport firm SeaRoad.

The company notes Guarino began his 35-year career with Australian National Line (ANL) before moving to the newly-established TT-Line in a succession of roles, ranging from that of purser on the original ferry, Abel Tasman, to general manager of freight services and operations, and ultimately chief operating officer.

“Pat knows Bass Strait inside out and adds a wealth of knowledge and understanding about meeting Tasmania’s transport requirements,” Kelly says.

“Pat has been doing some business development work for us and I am very pleased he has accepted the Board’s invitation to take on this leadership role.

“Pat is well-liked and well-respected, and we know customers will be pleased with this appointment.”

Kelly says Guarino will build upon the success of Searoad Mersey II as the company prepares to confirm an order for a sistership, to replace Searoad Tamar.

“We’re in detailed negotiations with the shipyard at the moment and my expectation is our second new ship will be in service between Devonport and Melbourne in 2020,” he adds.

The COO’s position is a new one within the organisation.
