GMC enters Australian market

GMC’s reach is now set to hit Australian shores following another year of expansion

American manufacturer GMC Motors, part of the broader General Motors group, has announced that it is set to enter the Australian, Chinese and New Zealand markets this year.

It comes after the company entered into the South Korean market last year while also having its best year in retail sales in the United States since 2017.

Initial plans for its introduction into these markets include introducing its Yukon full-size SUV. GMC, through GM Trucks, says that it expects to launch the SUV into Australia and New Zealand in 2025 and China in 2024.

With growing interest in electric vehicles, GMC says that vehicles such as its Hummer electric vehicle (EV) could also play a role in shaping its future offerings both globally and locally.

GMC says its expansion is due to its consistent growth in the US where its Sierra LD and HD pickups recorded record sales this past year. Over the past few years, it’s also seen significant growth in other international markets.

In Canada, it reached a total market share of 5.5 per cent, with the Sierra HD and Yukon models standing out, while it also experienced sales increase in the Middle East and Mexico.

GMC says that despite the move focusing on growing its market share, it could also offer insights into future trendsdevelopments and influence future product offerings in the US.
