Ashurst says it is advising TfNSW for the second road tunnel to go under Sydney Harbour
Global law firm Ashurst says it has advised Transport for NSW (TfNSW) on the procurement of the $4.24 billion stage two of the Western Harbour Tunnel project.
The tunnel will become the second road tunnel to go under Sydney Harbour and has been awarded to ACCIONA Construction Australia.
TfNSW has engaged ACCIONA to construct 6.5 kilometres of dual three-lane tunnels from the WestConnex M4-M5 Link at Rozelle Interchange to Warringah Freeway.
The procurement is being delivered under an incentivised target cost contract.
Ashurst says the project will improve traffic flow and connect Sydney’s west to the northern suburbs.
“We’re delighted to have advised Transport for NSW on the procurement of the Western Harbour Tunnel, a project that will transform the road experience for the people of Sydney,” Ashurst partner Krista Payne says.
“As the second package using the incentivised target cost model on the WHTBL program, it is also an excellent example of collaborative contracting by the NSW government. “Congratulations to everyone involved in the transport team and congratulations to the ACCIONA team on a successful bid.”
Fellow Ashurst partner Angus Foley says: “Ashurst would like to congratulate TfNSW and ACCIONA on achieving contract award for this city shaping infrastructure project for Sydney.”
“As our roads respond to changing traffic patterns from the adoption of both electric and autonomous vehicles, Sydney’s motorways will play an increasingly important role in the productivity of our city.”
