Mount Gibson Iron’s port export capacity at Geraldton is set to double following the completion of a rail and port upgrade, announced today.
The upgrade at Geraldton Port in Western Australia
is expected to increase Mount Gibson’s export capacity to about 6 million tonnes a year.
Mount Gibson Chief Executive Officer Jim Beyer says the upgrade’s completion is an important milestone for the company.
“The commissioning of our upgraded facilities at Geraldton will help transform the performance of our mid-west operations, as well as further strengthen Mount Gibson’s strategic position in the long-term development of the mid-west iron ore industry,” Beyer says.
“These new facilities will enable us to rapidly ramp up shipments from our Extension Hill and Tallering Peak mines, and provide a platform for long-term growth in the mid-west region.”
The upgrade combines a new high-volume rail loader with the company’s new Berth 5 storage, which has a 240,000 tonne capacity, with the company’s 120,000 tonne capacity Berth 4 storage.
Mount Gibson expects the shipment ramp-up to be finished by the end of this quarter.
