Gas Energy Australia wants the excise on LPG Autogas frozen and for it be removed from LNG and CNG

As the federal election draws nearer, Australia’s peak gas fuels representative body, Gas Energy Australia (GEA), has renewed calls for the Federal Government to encourage the development of gas fuels in Australia.
GEA is calling on the elected government to freeze the excise on LPG Autogas and remove the excise on LNG and CNG.
The body is also calling for funding for the car industry to be linked to the manufacture of new LPG models and an exemption for LPG vehicles from recently announced changes to the fringe tax benefit.
From a transport perspective, the body is also calling for the support the growth of gas-powered commercial and heavy vehicle fleets and for gas powered vehicles to be acknowledged in the Heavy Vehicle National Law.
“We are urging people working in the gas industry to contact local MPs and major parties and voice their concerns,” GEA CEO Mike Carmody says.
“These concerns include fuel excises that penalise fleet and heavy transport operators, rising fuel costs for families, the uncertain future facing over 2,000 small Autogas businesses and mobilising gas fuels in the climate change fight.”
