The CEO of the Queensland Trucking Association will join the ranks of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator as part of a number of appointments to the government body.
The Standing Council on Transport and Infrastructure (SCOTI) has appointed Peter Garske to the board, which will be chaired by former NSW transport minister Bruce Baird.
SCOTI, which brings together the country’s transport ministers, also appointed Flinders Port CEO and former Toll executive Vince Tremaine to the board. He will join NRMA Director Coral Taylor and occupational health and safety (OHS) and industrial relations expert Robin Stewart-Crompton.
“These individuals bring a wealth of skills and experience to the board, including extensive transport, business and finance expertise and strong leadership to shape this national body,” the communiqué from the SCOTI meeting says.
A search for the role of CEO is still underway, but the communiqué says an announcement “is expected in the near future”.
The NHVR is due to commence on January 1 next year. It will be based in Brisbane with offices around the country.
