Fremantle port development to affect freight flow

Fremantle Ports has warned port users to cooperate during road works in the next few months

Road freight flow around the Port of Fremantle will change due to continuing work on the Rous Head Industrial Park development, logistics companies have heard.

Fremantle Ports has warned port users of altered traffic conditions, with staged works on road construction and service installation to continue during the next few months.

“In the interests of safety and efficiency, the cooperation of all tenants and port users is essential while the road works are carried out,” a Fremantle Ports announcement says.

The statement says a signage plan is being implemented so road and access changes for each stage of the development are clearly shown.

Driver bulletins and tenant updates are also being distributed as the works proceed.

As part of the development, a new truck marshalling area (TMA) at Rous Head, a Caltex truck stop for light and heavy vehicles, and a café opened for business on June 24.

The developments are expected to improve logistics efficiency and amenity.

The TMA
has 60 parking bays for trucks.

According to Fremantle Ports, the TMA will help reduce congestion, particularly at peak periods.

Logistics sites will be able to use a congestion management system to call up trucks redirected to the TMA.

Fremantle port is recognised as Australia’s fourth largest container port.
